The British Museum

2 Lifetimes!

Visit the world under one roof!

The British Museum is for adventurers and lovers of world history. The place where you can whizz from one civilisation to another in a matter of minutes. The British Museum can be likened to Aladdin’s cave, it has over 80,000 items on display from across the globe which is why this tour takes two lifetimes to complete. Just kidding!

On my 2 - 2 1/2 hour highlights tour of the museum, we will explore ancient civilisations, seeing some of the most impressive items created by mankind, dated between the last 10 years (the museum purchase more recent items too) to thousands of years ago.

I'll get you up close and personal with the replica of the Rosetta Stone, which you can touch, rub and lean on (should you want too) and after you've got all of that touching out of your system, we will then refrain from touching anything else in the museum because it is filled with priceless and precious objects. We'll then gaze upon the real Rosetta Stone, which unlocked our understanding of Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphs, something that had only been last used or rather understood as far back as 394 AD

Next up is ancient Greece, where we will enjoy the Parthenon marbles (carved 2,500 years ago!) At some point during the tour I'll introduce you to exquisite pieces in the Hotung Gallery, including fine objects from ancient China, made of jade (once prized more than gold), copper and fired clay.

We'll walk between the Winged Bulls of Khorsabad from ancient Iraq. Khorsabad? No… you'll probably be thinking, cor that carving is so good! Hehe. These winged bulls feature a rare example of carved text known as Cuneiform, the earliest form of writing known to exist on Earth.
We’ll see the ancient Egyptian mummies in all their golden glory and discover how these VIPs were mummified and how Egyptians tried burying their dead in a time before mummification, the Pharaohs and the pyramids. I’m talking Pre-Dynasty.

I’ll show you gold discovered in Wales, U.K. and over a hundred items made of silver, from the Roman times, found in East England - during WWII – plus a great deal more!

Entrance to the British Museum is free but donations on the day are encouraged.
