Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle

2 to 2 1/2 hours

How would you like to walk in the footsteps of Her Majesty the Queen?!

Allow me to provide you with a tour of Windsor Castle, the oldest, largest and longest lived-in castle in the world! Home to the Royal Family for over 900 years. Join me for a tour of the Queen’s favourite home and we’ll explore the castle grounds before walking through the spectacular State Apartments, modernised at great expense during the 17th century for King Charles II and his wife and Queen; Catherine of Braganza, featuring fine wood carvings by Grinling Gibbons and gorgeously painted ceilings by Antonio Verrio. These rooms are furnished with some of the finest works of art from the Royal Collection Trust.

Today Her Majesty the Queen greets and entertains visiting heads of state in this part of the castle.

We’ll enter St George’s Chapel, rebuilt in the late 15th century in the Gothic architectural style, featuring a stunning fan-vaulted stone ceiling.

Many of our former kings and queens of England, including King Henry VIII (who had six wives) and King Charles I (executed for treason in 1649) are buried inside the chapel, and many others memorialised with exquisitely carved stone and marble memorials.

Many royal weddings have taken place inside St George’s Chapel including that of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in 2018.

Perhaps the chapel’s most important use today is that of a spiritual home to the Knights of the Order of the Garter. The oldest order of chivalry in the world. Founded over 700 years ago.
They will even be an opportunity to stand next to one of the Queen’s foot-guards (the soldiers who wear the black bearskins and red tunics).

The town of Windsor itself is incredibly picturesque and features a very well maintained high street (about a mile of shops all lined up side by side) and then there’s the River Thames. This part of the river Thames is filled with hundreds of white swans and I kid you not… a third of them belong to the Queen!

Please note admission tickets are required in order to visit the castle.
