Stonehenge

Full day tour

Visit Stonehenge and marvel at the oldest pre-historic monument in the UK. The most visited historic attraction outside of London. West of Heathrow airport.

It takes just over 2 hours to reach Stonehenge by car. One of the great things about Stonehenge is the location, and how much English countryside you have to pass in order to reach it. We’ll pass farms and lush fields making for a nice change to the city.

The stones are over 4,500 years old, shaped during a time before metal tools even existed. We know how the stones were shaped and put in place and how the workers lived but what we don’t know (as writing as we know it did not exist at this time) was the exact purpose of the site. Many agree that it must have been used for spiritual reasons, as so many people went to so much effort over such a long time to build it and their efforts are appreciated by over a million people who pay to visit each year. It is incredibly moving to stand or sit and really look and take in the stones, and learn about how people have interpreted them over the centuries. The stones have inspired writers, artists and musicians for hundreds of years.

What’s more, visiting Stonehenge doesn’t just include the stone circle itself, there’s also the recent award-winning visitor centre too, where you can see archaeological finds from the area and have fun exploring a group of Neolithic houses, a recreation of the type of homes that workers who built Stonehenge would have lived in.

Feeling strong? Try pulling one of the replica stones along a row of wooden logs and don’t worry… you won’t do yourself an injury, as it only lets you pull so far and so hard before the inbuilt computer tells you how many more people you’d need to successfully move it!
