What is a 'Blue Badge' and a bit about me...

What is a 'Blue Badge' ..?
The 'Blue Badge' is the highest qualification for tourist guiding in the U.K. and dates back to 1951, created to coincide with the Festival of Britain.
There are over 800 Blue Badge Tourist Guides in London today. In order to get our 'Blue Badge' ... our prized, world-renowned qualification, we must first complete a intensive 2 year course and then successfully pass 11 rigorous exam in order to qualify.
As a fully trained, insured and professional London Blue Badge Tourist Guide - since 2016 - I am qualified to guide across the capital and slightly further afield. Places including Windsor Castle (favourite home of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II), Stonehenge (the oldest pre-historic monument in the U.K.) and Hampton Court Palace (pleasure palace of King Henry VIII) to name but a few locations.

We Blue Badge Tourist Guides are the only external guides permitted to provide tours of the major sites and attractions found throughout London and the rest of the U.K.
Religious sites such as Westminster Abbey (our royal church), St Paul's Cathedral (our nation's Cathedral) as well as sites managed by charity Historic Royal Palaces such as the Tower of London (home to the dazzling Crown Jewels) and the Royal Collection Trust which manages Windsor Castle amongst other royal buildings, such as the Royal Mews (location of H.M. The Queen's stables) and many more.
The reciprocal relationships that we have with sites are incredibly important to us. In addition to allowing us to be the only external guides to provide tours on-site,  many sites provide our clients with a variety of exclusive perks and privileges, such as fast-track entry/skip-the-line plus access to behind-the-scenes areas and much else which we are very grateful for.

I am very much an all-rounder as a person and am happy to guide people of all ages and interests, be that an individual traveller, a couple, corporate group, U3A group or a family (kids are so much fun to guide).
London really has something for everyone on all budgets and is changing all of the time and is a really exciting place to explore, no matter what time of the year.

A bit about me...
I was born and raised in South London. Then moved to Stratford, East London in 2009. Stratford and East London in general is a really vibrant area, a cultural melting pot and when I moved there in 2009 parts of it were being heavily re-developed for the London 2012 Olympic Games, which made it a really exciting place to be. Most of the the area where the Games took place is completely unrecognisable now, an amazing transformation on what was previously an industrial wasteland, filled with broken fridges and burnt out cars and even a stinky salmon factory!
Since 2018 I have been living in North London, close to King's Cross Station which is in the middle of a large re-development project right now. It's a really fun place to live, work and explore. Nearby you have the restored Regent's Canal where there are lots of cool bars, restaurants and shops, many situated inside and around the newly developed Coal Drops Yard (imagine two Victorian brick warehouses connected with a giant wavy black-tiled roof?!)

Living in all of these very different areas of London has helped give me a great understanding of my home-city as a whole.
Did you know that London is made up of 32 different boroughs? Each area has a very different vibe to it.
I like to think of London as one giant chocolate box, such variety, ensuring something for everyone.

Before my time as a guide I spent most of my working life within some of London's finest royal palaces, such as the Tower of London, Kensington Palace (London's most exclusive royal residence), Hampton Court Palace and the Banqueting House (the last building left of Whitehall Palace, once the largest palace in Europe).
It was this experience that sparked my desire to become a professional tourist guide and I haven't looked back since!
I think I have the best job in the whole wide world!
